Description

Tufnol Kite Sheet is genuine Kite Brand Tufnol, a paper and phenolic resin laminate known in the trade as SRBP (synthetic resin bonded paper). Tufnol makes it as a first-class electrical insulating material, with good dielectric strength, high insulation resistance, low moisture absorption and good mechanical strength. It is made to BS EN 60893-3-4 Type PF CP 206, the grade formerly listed as BS 2572 Type P3.

Kite is the most widely used of Tufnol’s paper grades and is rated for low, medium and high voltage work. Panel builders and electricians use it for terminal boards, mounting panels, busbar supports, insulating spacers and bushes, coil formers and brush holders, as well as insulated enclosures and tool handles. Its impact strength is lower than the fabric grades, so for gears and wear parts choose Whale.

We stock Kite in 4mm, 10mm, 12mm and 20mm. Choose a cut piece from 150 x 150mm up to 600 x 600mm, or the 500 x 500mm full sheet in 20mm. Need a different size? Call us and we will quote.

Kite is supplied in its natural brown colour without protective film. The shade varies from sheet to sheet and between batches, so your piece may not match the photo exactly. Expect surface scuffs and handling marks, which are cosmetic and normal for engineering stock. It machines readily, and stock is limited, so once these sheets are gone we cannot promise more at this price.

Which Tufnol grade is right for you?

Kite is the specialist electrical grade, with much higher electric strength and insulation resistance than our Tufnol 1P/13 Sheet, which is the economical choice where electrical demands are moderate. For gears, bushes and wear parts, choose the tougher fabric-based Tufnol Whale Sheet, or browse our full Tufnol sheet range.

Please read before ordering: two tolerances apply

  • Cut size tolerance: cut pieces are nominal sizes and may measure up to 3mm under on length or width, as they are cut from full sheets with a 3mm saw blade. Full sheets are supplied at mill size.
  • Thickness tolerance: Tufnol sheet is supplied as moulded. Tufnol’s standard tolerance for paper grades is ±0.30mm at 4mm, ±0.55mm at 10mm and ±0.62mm at 12mm, so a 10mm sheet can measure 9.45 to 10.55mm. Every thickness is listed in the Technical tab. Thickness can vary across a single sheet. This is normal for laminated sheet, not a fault, so allow stock to machine down if you need a precise thickness.

Need a closer size or a finished part? Contact us before ordering on 01427 611668 or at sales@trentplastics.co.uk and we’ll advise and quote.

Placed my order for replacement greenhouse acrylic on a Sunday, arrived by the Wednesday, very pleased with the delivery time. The plastic is of excellent quality, cut accurate and well. The packing was well thought out, with plastic spacers on each corner to prevent any damage in transit. Would defiantly be my first choice to go to if I need any more replacements for my greenhouse. Thank you

Can I cut acrylic sheet myself?

Yes, you can cut acrylic yourself using a fine-toothed saw, jigsaw, or circular saw. Be sure to secure the material to prevent movement during cutting. We also offer a professional cutting service for precise results.

How do I measure for cutouts or holes?

Measure from the edges of the sheet to the sides of the hole for the most accurate positioning. For more complex designs, please provide a drawing or digital file.

What is the standard radius of a curved corner?

Unless otherwise specified, our standard corner radius is 5mm.

What is the largest sheet size you can cut?

We can cut sheets up to 3050 x 2040 mm depending on the material and your project requirements.

    What is your cutting tolerance?

We cut acrylic sheets with a tolerance of +/- 1mm. For tighter tolerances, please contact us in advance.

    What are polished edges?

Polished edges are the smooth, glossy edges that result from diamond polishing or flame polishing after cutting. It gives the edge a clearer, glass-like finish.

    What is diamond polishing?

    Is acrylic stronger than glass?

Yes, acrylic is approximately 20 times stronger than glass, making it much more impact-resistant.

Is acrylic suitable for laser cutting and engraving?

Yes, both cast and extruded acrylic are suitable for laser cutting and engraving. However, cast acrylic tends to provide a smoother finish and is better suited for fine work.

What is the difference between Acrylic, Perspex, and Plexiglas?

They are essentially the same material, with Perspex and Plexiglas being brand names for acrylic.

    How do I clean acrylic?
